Those white full hub inkjet pritables do have a dull finish to them. Some people use a laquer coating on them to brighten them up. Patricia Nomicks and Krylon are a couple. I am skeptical about using them because I don't want to suffer playback issues.
I've been using Ty-G02 shiny inkjet printables and they look awesome. Kinda like a 3D picture on them.
I also do lightscribe, and the shiny inkjet printable still look better.

I'm currently using Mirror +R printables as my DVD player loves them but is very fussy about others (I've got a 5 year old Goodmans sound surround system which was so expensive then that I feel I've got to get my moneys worth so have never replaced it)
P.s. I still only burn at 2.4x but it's the end result that counts - the quality of playback

I myself don't look at the brand of disc but at the dye used on it.
Mcc dye is the best at the moment

Have used "hundreds" of Ritek/Ridata x8 or x16 -R (printable) with no problems burning with either LG or Pioneer writers as long as you keep the firmware updated.
They have been more economical and reliable than most of the more expensive disks I have tried.
Cost at the present time $16 aud per spindle of 50.

I couldnt agree more. You shouldnt be just asking about the print finish, but also the media code, wafter all, whats the point of burning a movie or whatever to disc, for it to be just unreadable 6 months later because the dye has degraded, go for a quality media like Taiyos, they cost more, but they are 100% worth it.
Wouldnt like to try spraying them with anything though....

I use Ritek 8x full face printables and spray over with Mint Finish lacquer, this gives it a sheen and stops the ink running if you accidentally get them wet. Its expensive at around £8 a can but does a good job and i havent had any playback problems what so ever. The discs are currently £13.50 per hundred at Bowlers. If anyone knows of a good cheaper lacquer let us all know.

The ONLY way to go is Taiyo Yuden...or the good Verbatim stuff
Anything made in Singapore or Japan is usually of high quality.
I use Taiyo Yuden Watershields and the are the best looking and highest quality u can get. Right now I pay about 75 cents (CDN) a disk. Expensive you think? I don't think so. I have almost a thousand movies I burned/printed. Think of all the time you spent burning and printing covers...and think of all the money you spend on ink. I wouldn't chance it buying crappy disks. Basically, the things I use to make up dvds and music cds are of the highest quality but if you buy in bulk you still save money. My dvds and cds are almost store-bought looking. I spend a huge amount of time trying to perfect my collection. For any of you that may want to get some tips or ask some questions feel free to send me a message.
Happy printing!
