Hi can anyone please give me some advice on problems I am having. I make a back up copy of my dvd. Everything seems ok but when I play it back on my dvd player or ps2 it jump's, freezes or blocks. But when I play it back on my pc it's fine. I'm using good quality dvd's (tdk) and burning at a low speed (2.4). It's getting to the stage where im thinking of sacking the hole thing.

Thanks in advance for any input

Check what type of discs your dvd & ps2 takes first....... As some systems take certain disc........there are tons of different discs out there so don't just buy tdk as i had a lot of trouble with them........I have went on to mitsubihi dvd+rw and the -r and they work on every thing i have......Could you let me know how you got on.... smoke.gif

TDK can make good disc but from time to time you get a bad lot that get throw.....But it could be your burner that can't take them.....Or even a program error......Who knows.......The main thing is you have the problem solve with other discs........Good luck and have fun........ thumbup1.gif

Have you tried using the new Alcohol .. Vers. 1.9.5 .. Also I would steer away from tdk dvds .. I use Fujufilm dvd+ .. If you are using dvdr- Maybe try switch to dvdr+'s .. I think they have more compatibility in players.

Tdk does use some lower quality manufacturers in some of their media. Mainly C-Magnetics Corp. I stay away from them. You can get higher quality media for around the same price.

Verbatim
Taiyo Yuden
Japanese packs of: Sony/Fuji/and Maxell

Your stand alone player and ps2 recognizes them.It just something is wrong with them because they show you issues. You've verified the backup copy is a success by playing back through the dvd-rw drive that produced it.

You'll need a program to ID your blanks. After you run them through one of those programs, then It'll give you the MID code from them: Neroinfotool/Dvdinfopro/Dvdidentifier/Dvd decrypter/Plextools/Kprobe/Qsuite 2.0 are just a few, depending on your dvd-rw drive and what programs you have.

You changed media and issues solved. Just stay away from MID code that was on your TDKs. Not very easy. If they were cmags: Heres some more brand names that use cmags: HP/Philips/Memosux/Store brand name media like staples/Very few maxell dash/very few verbatim.

Notice on my list of brand names,I stated Japanese packs of SONY/Fuji/and Maxell. Taiyo yuden makes media for some of TDK/Sony/and Fuji. Hitachi makes the Japanese packs of Maxell in both formats. Someone may get a pack of those japanese Fuji Ty-G02, and they perform perfect. Next thing they do,buy another batch. Wham, they picked up the Taiwanese spindle of fuji and they code as Fujifilm03. Quality will be a big difference for fuji media between both countries. Now sony is pretty decent from either country, and maxell is pretty good.

That's why stick with the big boys of quality media. Taiyo Yuden and Verbatim. Burners may be able to burn the low quality media ok,but some of those stand alone players will have greater possibility of issues.

Sorry bout that:

Switched to Verbatim and fixed all my playback probs, was using generick, ordered on-line and almost quit burning dvd's. Using dvd-r and have great sucess. Great place to buy them, or where I get Them, is at Sams club..
Pack of 30 in case is $24.00 (US).

Use dvd+r disks. They can be changed to be read as dvd-rom by players, increasing compatibility. Also known as bit type booksetting. -r disks cant.
As for quality, good media is hard to find. I use Ritek 002-003 which is Fuji-branded. I use ImgBurn for prog with a liteon burner. For me, Ritek better
than Verbatim, but I will switch to plextor burner and probably go back to Verbatim. Easy 2 do, not easy 2 do well consistently. 100 inkjet printable dvd+r's
for $43.00, Sam's Club. GL + HF.

Have you tried BenQ+R(W). I use those and haven't had a problem yet.

I have had very bad experiences with TDK and Maxell. However I have had nothing but GOOD experiences with Verbatim media.

Use blank media with a good quality dye on it
use this site to compare media
http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm
Then look for the dye not the disc
You may also want to update the firmware on your devices.

ritek discs are good discs as so are e-pro and smartbuy, but the general rule is once you have found a disc that gives no trouble just stick to it. clap.gif cheers.gif thumbup.gif
