Hiya dvdmanpaul, did you ever resolve your problem?

I'm curious as to why CloneDVD kept failing?

Were you running anything to remove the copy-protection, if there was any?

Could it have been your dvd burner. Maybe it only took certain disc's....i.e...-r's or +r's.

And did dvd shrink help ????

I use RipIt4Me, which automates using DVDShrink, DVD Decrypter and ImgBurn softwares all in one. If you download these 4, you start with RipIt4Me and it takes you through the steps and opens each program when it needs to. Takes a little learning (took me a lot) but it works great! good luck! Or instead of compressing the DVDs you could split them.
Many of the programs used for compressing can also split the DVDs.
And you can also remove things you don't need/want, (removing some of the audiotracks, exstras ect) to make it fit on a singel-layer DVD disc without any compression.

There is loads of programs out there, so you could try them out.

I use DVDFab.

note: If you are realy intrested in compressing movies to fit on a DVD5 disc you could use Cinema Craft Encoder (CCE), but be warned, that is an advanced program. But in turn the program probably gives you the best quality/size you can get.

You could just use Verbatim 8.5 GB Disc... this will save you alot of time...

what type of DVD Burner do you have ?.... Most DVD burners can use 8.5 GB double layer Disc.

Give it a try...far less painful then looking for software. thanks
