I voted maybe - if they have friends with them then I would, because the wireless gaming is pretty darn cool.
If they are more a casual gamer though... probably not. The DS is better for that crowd.

maybe, i dont own one, consider it a waste of money for the amount i would play it.
id definately recommend it to a real gamer though
only thing i dont like about them is the analog stick; can get fiddly unless you have small hands

I'd recommend one to a hardcore gamer, but be prepared for a limited amount of decent games, long loading times and overpriced accessories (UMDs, memory etc).
The DS loads fast from carts, has a huge games library (including the Advance stuff) and youve also got less chance of trashing the screen.
I've got both and to be honest even though the PSP is a great bundle of tricks I don't get the most out of it.
On top of that though the DS has tiny buttons.

I definately would, I've been into psp hacking for over a year and it's quite fun. Although the games are expensive etc, there are ways to hack them to play downloaded games and other stuff. I have over 140 titles.
Online play is fun, you can do loads of other stuff with them too like homebrew, there are emulators for loads of consoles ranging from the zx80 spectrum to the nintendo64. photos, mp3, mp4, convert dvds to watch, tv, radio, gps, web browser, the list goes on.
