I haven't seen an announcement and the site's been on and off-line for the past day. Was it hacked?

I only discovered this site last month and have, so far, been pleased with the better quality images I find here (as opposed to places like "cdcovers.cc"). I've been considering becoming a paying member, but the site has been down quite a few times since I've been coming here; not quite the positive track record that attracts me to spend money.

Think it to do with new servers been installed or moved, no sure though.

That is correct. We are currently migrating the site onto new servers and into a load balancing cluster. unfortunately we needed to take the covers section site down so we can effectively transfer all of the data over into this cluster.

We do apologize for the inconvenience… We promise to make it up to all of our members!

We'll have a version of the site back online within a couple hours. We just wanted to get the crunch of the migration completed first to ensure there won't be any issues once we are back live.

However long it takes it will be worth the wait. I use 2 different sites in case 1 is down. This one is far better than the other one I use. I love being a gold member.

Moving is always a pain in the ass. We're in the middle of moving the whole shebang...lock stock and barrel. Give us a few days, you don't want us to leave any covers behind in the attic...do you?
Growing pains...they hurt so much...but when you wake up taller...you forget the pain that got you there.

The site has been attracting more users as time goes on. We have spent thousands of that Gold Membership money on new servers and this better connection.

Have you realized that you can download faster over the last month? That costs us a nice $800/monthly for the bandwidth and we need even more space.

The new setup would have six servers to deal with future load. I'm not going to bullshit you; one of the servers decided to kick the bucket so there would be one more addition when that gets fixed.

So technically, we would be running on 5 servers as opposed to 2 (database and web server). The reason is, we want to prevent downtime; computers will eventually fail and this setup provides redundancy.

Oopppss. Sorry. Newbie error. I certainly hope FreeCovers.net never becomes what, errr, that 'cd place' has become. Though they do have a large selection of DVD covers, the majority of them aren't very good. EVERY cover I've been able to download from here has been really good, even with my non-gold status...which I'm anxiously waiting to rectify once the site is back online. So far, my uploads have all been accepted -- though I think they'd be too good for that 'cd' place, anyway.

I have been a gold member since I can't remember when and I am sure it will be worth the wait. The quality of the images as apposed to that of cdcovers has been outstanding. Look forward to the site re-opening for buisness. for thos who are'nt paid members, pay up and you will reap the rewards.

We believe quality over quantity ( but a good quantity of quality is the goal)

There are still problems, but they'll no doubt be ironed out soon -- which is incredibly important, since the World is waiting anxiously for the "A Shari Lewis Christmas" cover I'm ready to upload! (Odd but true....)

Prospectively, the 3 biggest improvements I hope for are: (1) have quotes or plus-signs (boolean operators) work on searches, AND (2) allow searches with words of 3 or 2 characters, AND (3) force region info on the cover titles.

These things would make this GREAT site even better! IMHO....

I have great sympathy with you as we run 4 servers in our business and it is real challenge keeping them running smoothly.

We found a new product 'shadowprotect' which is possibly the best backup-restore program ever, check it out but be warned it's not cheap. www.shadowprotect.com .

It can do a very effective hardware independent restore; ie. from server to laptop for running whatever while servers are being rebuilt, it works very well. Forgot to mention it's fast and the resulting image is tiny compared to other methods.

I just wanted to say my wife and I appreciate the wonderful job being done with this site . The last time I attempted to logon it was during the migration . I was slowly able to get a few covers downloaded but decided to wait a while to get back on until the issues were resolved.
It appears the server migration is now complete and all is fine?
Oh, I have to ask, what was meant by "We promise to make it (issues during migration) up to all of our members!"? My membership renewal is due soon .

Expanding too fast has its negatives so selective upgraded like these suggestions may be worth a thought or not if its too unpopular: I was wondering if its possible to help make the money last and spend the cash on those who support the site if you have a 'premium' server/connection for paying members and a normal/regular service for non-members?
